Stump Removal Methods, Why rent a stump grinder?
Many, if not most, landscaping projects require the removal of one or more trees. The classic is where you need to remove a tree that has buckled the walkway (which you also have to remove and replace).
The removal of the tree can be easy (saw it down where it falls to a cleared area and be cut to size and hauled off) to very difficult (taking off limbs, climbing to top the tree first, felling it without taking out the garage, etc.). In all cases, however, there remains the question of what to do with the stump.
Here are some of the options:
- Use a chemical to disintegrate it. This can pose a number of problems. One is that it takes a good deal of time. That makes it impractical for most projects. It can also pose a danger to animals who could become exposed to the chemicals.
- Dig it out. This is sometimes the practical way if the tree (or trees) are small and the roots not too well established or too invasive. If the tree or trees are large or have extensive root systems, this can take most time and muscle than most people want to expend.
- Grind the stump down to a foot or more below the surface. For most projects this is the most practical approach. Renting a stump grinder from your local Cart-Away Supply Store makes this a solution for those who don't grind stumps often enough to own their own grinder.
